Description:

Coyotes are the size of a medium-sized dog with a slender, muscular body. They are mostly gray with a bushy tail tipped with black fur.

Fun Facts: 

  • Breeding Period: January – March
  • Gestation Period: 63 days
  • Litter Size: 1 – 12 pups
  • Life Span: Approximately 10 – 12 years
  • Adult weight: 20 – 50 lb.
  • Adult height: 1.5 – 2 ft.
  • Food: Omnivorous, small mammals, vegetables, nuts, and carrion. 

Habitat and Habits:

Although traditionally coyotes lived in open areas, but in Ohio they prefer farmland with wooden lands. Coyotes nocturnal creatures, so they are most active at night and during early morning hours, especially near humans.

Common Problems:

Coyotes at times will attack and kill small pets like cats and small dogs and can severely injure even large dogs.
